UpdateDay-one patch 1.007 is available and weighs in at approximately 25 gigabytes. Disc owners should be able to play the full game immediately with this.
The planned day one patch for IO Interactive's spy thriller "007 First Light" doubles the initial storage requirement on the PS5 before its official launch. Data analysis of the PSN servers shows that the launch patch, at approximately 25 gigabytes, drastically increases the original preload size of 45,6 gigabytes.
The spy game will unlock Early Access for digital pre-order customers on May 26th at 16 PM CEST, with the regular release on May 27th. The update to version 01.005.000 has brought the final installation size to approximately 50 gigabytes. Version 1.006 is now available, as reported by PlayStation Game Size.
Data compression masks unfinished data carriers
Those who own the physical disc version of “007 First LightThose who purchased the game through a retailer are facing a forced break. Initial reports from players with early access. to confirmThe disc only contains the prologue, or the first mission, which IO has since released as a gameplay video. The rest of the game must be downloaded via the PlayStation Network. Therefore, playing the game offline directly from the disc is not possible.
The discrepancy between the patch size and the final increase in SSD storage can be explained by the way the in-house Glacier engine works. The patch overwrites existing data packages on a massive scale, rather than simply adding to them. IO Interactive also uses highly compressed asset pools, where textures and core mechanics are globally replaced. This reduces the final footprint to just under 51 gigabytes, but requires a massive amount of bandwidth for download.
Looks like Day One Patch is 25.242 GB

Console optimization compared to PC
A platform comparison reveals the efficiency of Sony's Kraken compression hardware. While the PlayStation 5 version requires just under 51 gigabytes, the developer lists a storage requirement of a full 80 gigabytes for the PC version on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Xbox Series X version also requires around 55 gigabytes. Furthermore, Microsoft users have to forgo preloading entirely and can only begin the download once the servers are unlocked worldwide.
The upcoming day-one patch is not an optional performance update, but a technical necessity to fully utilize the game. Owners of the disc version are effectively locked out due to the incomplete pressing process and forced to download the patch. Digital purchasers who preloaded the game should absolutely ensure their internet connection is maxed out before the Early Access launch at 16 PM to be ready to report to MI6 headquarters on time. Period.

I finished the game today, bought it 3 days ago and finished it today for €69,99 😂
These days, a disc is essentially just the license you insert into the console. Sure, it contains data, but for some, that data is less than 1 GB. This is more common with Xbox, but it's becoming more prevalent with PlayStation and Nintendo as well. So, for the player, a disc offers no added value compared to, for example, watching a Blu-ray or 4K UHD disc (uncompressed audio, high bitrate, etc.).
You only have one more case with a cover, which will eventually be phased out, just like with PCs.
Absolute rubbish.
It should not be related by “liracle kraken compression” for PS5, because Xbox version is sightly same size, and Kraken is not available on Xbox systems. The difference between consoles and PC (51/55gb < 80 gb) should be the result of less texture size, more compressed music, smaller shadow amp (Glacier use pre rendered shadow map and apply in addition real time shadows), etc.
It reminds me Max Payne 3, and the difference between console and PC game size.
Therefore, I see no reason to buy a game on disc in the future, because the games aren't completely on disc anyway.
Who cares? 25GB will be ready in 3-4 minutes.
The majority? That's nonsense… The installed data is 45GB. The Day One Patch is 25GB.
You can't speak of the "majority" in that case.
Ah, those were different times. Pixel games came in 8-16 bit. Everything on one cartridge, or PlayStation, Xbox, PlayStation 2, etc., all without patches.
Well, different time scale and laziness on the part of the developers 🤷🏼
Dennis Schäfer, the developers' laziness... 😀 You really have no idea what's involved and you're comparing it to games where you controlled the character in 2D with a D-pad 🫡
And there have already been patches for Playstation 2 🥹
Dennis Schäfer, that's why I still enjoy playing retro games today. Just blow in and start playing! 😁
With games like these, I wait until I can get them for under €20…then the price is justified for me.
Ergy's Tafa on the disk usually only contains the license.
For that reason, Christian Funk is worth no more than €20 to me.
Ergys Tafa, with that game you can wait a long time until it costs less than 20 euros.
David Bode estimates that in about half a year it will cost €30 new and you can get a used one for €20…
Ergys Tafa, I doubt that with such popular titles. Resident Evil 9 has been astronomically priced for three months. The years-old The Last of Us for PS5 is still at 40/50 euros. I fear that Bond won't drop below 50 euros this year.
I paid €60 for David Bode Resident Evil 9 at release…but it's fully on disc and that's why it was worth it to me.
I got The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5 used for €15, for example, as well as many other titles like Death Standing 2, Star Wars Outlaws, Dragon Age Va…etc. Anything that isn't directly Nintendo drops in price so quickly…and blank discs without content drop in price even faster…especially mass-produced games like James Bond.
David Bode
Wait until Christmas at the latest, it will be on sale for between €35 and €40. Even BF6 was free for 3 or 5 days about 14 days ago, costing around €30, and now it's back to full price.
Ergys Tafa, just wait the next 7 or 8 years 🤣
That's why I don't understand the fuss about the Switch's game keycards. PS and Xbox games haven't been fully on disc since the PS4, so I can just download them completely.
Jan Wolfrum, I think with Ghost of Yotei you had to download 86 GB, but I believe there were 2 or 3 games on the disc!
Jan Wolfrum, there are search engines that contradict your statement. 72% of PS4 content is entirely on the disc.
Oliver Friedel and yet not 100%
Thomas Forbriger, online multiplayer games aren't even possible 🤦🏻♀️
Oliver Friedel, of course not…
