This week sees the release of the somewhat unusual co-op title 'A Way Out' from developer Hazelight, which absolutely requires playing with another player. Whether you play online or together on the couch is up to you, but according to Game Director Josef Fares, he recommends the latter.
Fares attributes this to the fact that discussions about gameplay and solutions are an essential part of the experience and game design, and that such discussions usually work better directly with each other than via a headset. Furthermore, Fares said:
"I prefer it when people play A Way Out locally. You can play online, but I think the experience is much better on the couch. The reason is that what happens on the couch is almost as important as what happens on the screen. The players' discussions on the couch are actually part of the game design."
Whether the concept of A Way Out works in general remains to be seen. The game will be available from March 23rd.
