For Electronic Arts, the release of 'A Way Out' was certainly a very unusual step, as they claim not to have earned a single cent from the game.

The success of this innovative co-op title also confirms the value of taking such risks, as mentioned in the latest quarterly report, 2.6 million players have already ventured into A Way Out. This has been particularly noticeable in physical and digital sales, which is why the company plans to experiment with similar business models in the future.

Cross-play, cloud and free-to-play are targeted.

As Electronic Arts Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson and Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen explain, the company plans to invest more heavily in free-to-play, cross-play, and cloud gaming in the future. However, this will be done with standalone games that are not based on well-known franchises like Battlefield.

Another important future vision is cross-play, as seen in Fortnite, which is considered a key part of future strategy. Finally, cloud gaming is seen as having great potential, even though the technology will likely require some time to develop. This is not only from the publisher's perspective, but also as a real benefit for players, who will gain easier access to games.
