The Call of Duty series, which has sometimes sold over 20 million copies per game, has likely passed its peak. Analysts now expect the next Battlefield game to be more successful.

The well-known industry analyst Michael Pachter has now commented on this, seeing the coming year as an opportunity for EA and the Battlefield franchise to finally overtake the competition.

"If there's ever a year when someone can knock Call of Duty off the top, it's next year. I recommend EA seize this opportunity with Battlefield 5, because only DICE can get multiplayer right."

So far, neither the next Call of Duty nor Battlefield 5 has been officially unveiled; all that's known about Battlefield 5 is that it will be released in 2016 and will again have a military theme. The next Call of Duty is also expected in 2016.
