Although the new project from Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Désilets – Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey – certainly takes an interesting approach, it's receiving rather modest reviews in the first PC tests. The Metacritic score is currently only 64, which, according to Désilets, isn't due to the game itself, but rather the reviewers.

This is Patrice Désilets the opinionthat some people hadn't even played the game at all, which understandably made him quite angry. While he didn't want to name names or magazines, he did offer a few examples. For instance, there's no fire in the game and you can't ride horses, yet some reviewers wrote: "Riding horses wasn't so great."

This leads Désilets to conclude that they never really played it properly, which is why they're so upset. They also believe they know the reason behind it: some simply didn't have the time to delve deeper into Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

"It's part of our industry that they have to test a game, and they have 15 that they have to test in a week, and sometimes they don't have time."

Whether things are really as Désilets describes them would need to be investigated more closely. He himself is not used to his games receiving such poor reviews. Furthermore, he argues that it has been overlooked that his studio consists of only 35 people, not hundreds of developers like those behind Assassin's Creed. This alone necessitated making some difficult decisions in order to release the game at all.

Whether Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is truly worth only a 7 or lower is debatable. Find out from December, as soon as the title is released for PS4 and Xbox One.
