Contrary to recent reports of disappointing playtests and a "Fall Guys"-like design, "Assassin's Creed Invictus" reportedly retains the realistic look of the main series, but continues to struggle with difficult production.

According to Insider-Gaming, citing sources within the development team, while the gameplay with knockout rounds shows parallels to "Fall Guys," the available video footage reportedly features visuals that fit seamlessly into the franchise. This appears to be Ubisoft's response to criticism that the brand's overly childish design was alienating it.

Realism instead of comic book look

According to reports, players will control well-known assassins through detailed maps based on locations from "Assassin's Creed Mirage" and "Assassin's Creed Odyssey." Despite this visual fidelity, the project's condition remains critical after several years of delays, even though Ubisoft continues to insist on a release.

Behind the scenes, the project is being overseen by a small team of veterans who played a key role in the success of "For Honor." The medieval epic is entering its tenth year and remains profitable for Ubisoft. The team is expected to apply that same experience gained from years of developing competitive melee combat to the "Assassin's Creed" universe. Furthermore, "Assassin's Creed Invictus" is intended to be a central pillar of Ubisoft's 10-year plan for the franchise and will be closely integrated with the hub.

Between potential and attitude

Despite the positive reports regarding the graphics, the situation remains unclear, as Ubisoft has not yet officially unveiled the game. The fact that the most recent playtest in April was nevertheless described as "dreadfulThe perception that the game's foundation is still far from being ready for market. While insiders say the title isn't currently planned for cancellation, it can't be entirely ruled out given Ubisoft's current financial situation.

The all-clear regarding the art style is an important signal to core fans, who can look forward to a true Assassin's Creed. However, good graphics alone cannot save an unstable multiplayer framework. The trust placed in the For Honor team shows that Ubisoft intends to be patient. If "Assassin's Creed Invictus" is released, it will likely not be a short-lived party game, but a serious attempt at a competitive live-service title.
