Obsidian Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios bring Avowed Finally on PlayStation 5. The "Anniversary Update," which significantly expands the action RPG, will be released at the same time.
Avowed was previously only available for Xbox Series X/S and PC and immerses you in the world of Pillars of EternityAs an envoy of the Emperor of Edier, you investigate a mysterious plague threatening the land. Your decisions can improve the situation, worsen it, or fall somewhere in between – classic choice-and-consequence gameplay from Obsidian Games.
Anniversary Update: More depth, more options
The "Anniversary Update" brings tangible new features. These include:
- New Game Plus: You start again, but retain all your abilities and endgame equipment – level 1 is reset, but you're not automatically overpowered. Enemies receive random modifiers, increasing the challenge.
- Photo mode: Finally, you can showcase your envoy without complicated camera tricks. Ideal for epic landscapes or dramatic dialogue moments.
- New weapons & godlike presets: Additional options to customize your play style and experience the world in different ways.
- New character options: Players can now choose other species, including Amin and dwarves, which significantly expands the role-playing experience.
- Gameplay refinements: Improved skill trees, gear updates, bug and crash fixes, and a community-driven "Arachnophobia Mode" round off the update.
Obsidian stressedMany of these features are directly based on player requests. The sheer number of playable races, in particular, proved too complex to deliver at launch. This update will address that. Avowed now rounder, more individual and overall more accessible.
More than just a PS5 port
For PS5 players, the timing is perfect. You not only get the base game, but also the improvements and expansions that fans have been asking for. Obsidian delivers an action RPG with noticeable depth, implementing choice-and-consequence mechanics effectively without stifling players with excessive micromanagement.
The combination of first-person action, parkour-like movements, and variable character selection makes Avowed The result is an experience that feels slightly different on each platform. Those already familiar with the Xbox or PC version will find the new features bring a fresh layer of enjoyment.
For RPG fans who like Obsidian, February 17th is a must-see date. And everyone who has had to wait for the PS5 can finally experience a technically solid and expanded package.
I completed the game on Xbox. The combat felt very clunky. I hope it will be a bit smoother in the new version.
