After more than seven years, it cuts Beat Saber The connection to the PlayStation VR platform has been discontinued. As developer Beat Games has officially confirmed, there will be no further updates or new content for the PS VR and PS VR2 versions. The multiplayer mode also has an expiration date: it will be discontinued on both platforms on January 21, 2026.
For those who still regularly use VR headsets, this sounds like a significant change. The good news: The game remains playable, previously purchased content remains available, and purchasing the base version is still possible.
No new content – but no shutdown.
Beat Games stressedthat the step does not mean a general end for Beat Saber This means it's not just for PlayStation. It's a clean break regarding the game's future development. The PS4 and PS5 versions will simply no longer receive any new content after June 18, 2025. However, all songs and music packs released up to that point will remain playable and available for purchase.
Another important point: Cross-buy between PS4 and PS5 remains active. So, anyone who has previously used both systems won't lose anything in this respect.
What's next?
Beat Games itself refers to this in the announcement as "the next big step" for Beat SaberWhat exactly this means remains unclear. New platforms? A technical reboot? VR-exclusive features beyond PS hardware? Nothing has been confirmed so far – it remains a vague prospect for an undefined future of the game.
For PS VR2 users, the move is nonetheless disappointing. Especially given the current content situation for Sony's headset, which already struggles with software support, the decision seems like yet another question mark for the long-term VR strategy on the platform.
Who visites Beat Saber Those who want to continue playing on PlayStation can still do so in the future – just without new content. What do you think of Beat Games' decision? Forward-thinking or premature? Discuss it with us in the comments.
