Bethesda had originally planned to take some time before releasing the next Fallout game. However, a recent announcement from the publisher today suggests otherwise.

A new Fallout game would indeed be a bit too soon given Bethesda's usual release cycle, so speculation centers on a remaster or something similar. However, there have also been recurring reports recently that Fallout: New Vegas or a direct sequel to it might be in development.
What's really behind it will probably only become clear later. Bethesda's E3 Showcase, which takes place in a few days.

As suspected, there are some doubts that the announcement is for a new Fallout game. Instead, it's said to be a brand-new game that marks a new direction for Bethesda. More information may be revealed later today.
