There's another status update on "Beyond Good and Evil 2," which Ubisoft is still committed to. However, the project doesn't seem to be easy to manage.
It's quite unusual that Ubisoft is holding onto "Beyond Good and Evil 2" for so long. Other projects like "The Division Heartland" were abandoned much more quickly. The original announcement was 16 years ago, and since then there have only been statements of intent to release the title.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 development is complicated
The current status of "Beyond Good and Evil 2" was revealed in a conversation with insider Tom Henderson, who discussed the matter with Paul Tassi of Forbes Magazine. They addressed a user's pointed question about when the game would be canceled and whether it was still in development.
Henderson replied to this only:
“Yes, but it’s very complicated.”
It does but it's very complicated 😂

Essentially, "Beyond Good and Evil 2" was only revealed through a leak and wasn't even supposed to be formally announced. Later, a cinematic trailer and a rough game description followed, which stated:
"Journey to System 3, the prequel to one of Ubisoft's most beloved games! Fight alongside unforgettable characters in a breathtaking new solar system as they battle for freedom and the right to forge their own destiny among the stars. Play the adventure solo or with friends on a vast and seamless online playground. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the spiritual successor to the cult classic, a prequel that transports players to a deeply multicultural world and captures the spirit of the original with grandiose scenery and intense drama. As part of the Space Monkey program, Ubisoft Montpellier will develop the game in collaboration with its fan community."
As mentioned before, that was 16 years ago, and key members of the development team have long since left Ubisoft. Therefore, all we can do is hope that "Beyond Good and Evil 2" will eventually see the light of day.
