Ubisoft is in the midst of a major restructuring, during which several projects have been cancelled, but Beyond: Good & Evil 2 This should not affect it. Creative Director Fawzi Mesmar has spoken out for the first time since the internal "reset" and assured everyone that development is continuing.

Last week, Ubisoft announced a comprehensive restructuring. In the future, autonomous "creative houses" will manage development. One of these will be responsible for... Beyond: Good & Evil 2 — news that certainly surprised many fans. After all, the publisher had recently shown little restraint, canceling six projects, including the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Ubisoft is officially still working on Beyond: Good & Evil 2.

On LinkedIn Mesmar personally spoke up and tried to calm the situation.Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2 are unaffected by the recent changes“,” he writes, referring to the official press release about the new structure. He becomes even clearer elsewhere: “We remain committed and focused on delivering a remarkable game for our players to enjoy. "

These statements are not from a trailer or a marketing campaign, but from a personal statement. This lends weight to the words, but it doesn't replace concrete insights into the actual state of development.

Between hope and reality: a project with a history

Beyond: Good & Evil 2 Originally announced in 2008 and re-introduced in 2017, the game has since almost completely disappeared from public view, attracting attention only through leaks, if at all. With the departure of series creator Michel Ancel in 2020, the project also lost a key figure. Since then, there has been radio silence, aside from occasional signs of life from the Ubisoft universe.

The fact that the game is now part of a dedicated creative house can be seen as a positive, as it's clearly not considered obsolete internally. At the same time, the crucial question remains unanswered by Ubisoft – how far along is the development? Beyond: Good & Evil for real?

The statement “We remain committed“It’s important, but it’s also the absolute minimum. After almost 20 years of development, trust alone is no longer enough. What fans need now are tangible improvements: gameplay, a clear focus, a realistic scope.”

The good news: Beyond: Good & Evil 2 It's still alive. The honest truth: Whether it will ever be released – and in what form – remains an open question.

What do you think: Do you still believe in Beyond: Good & Evil 2, or has the project long since become too big for itself?
