Sony breaks the rules: Big Walk from the Goose game developers will be available for free on PS Plus Essentials on August 4, 2026, right at launch. All the details!

Sony unveiled "Big Walk" as the first free game for the month after next (August 2026) in an extremely unusual and sneaky manner during yesterday's Nintendo Direct.

The co-op adventure from Untitled Goose Game developers House House breaks with PlayStation's traditional announcement pattern. For subscribers, this means a rare true day-one launch at the lowest subscription tier without any additional costs.

Day One at Essential: an absolute exception

Sony typically reserves day-one premieres exclusively for its more expensive Extra and Premium subscriptions. Essential subscribers almost exclusively receive older titles or well-known franchises. The fact that a brand-new indie highlight is available to the basic subscription right from its launch on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, clearly demonstrates a change in strategy.

The game itself relies heavily on the community. You explore an open world together with up to twelve players, solve puzzles, and communicate via a complex proximity voice chat system. Voices echo in corridors or crackle through walkie-talkies. If your voice is lost completely, only arm gestures will help. It's an experiment. And that's precisely what makes it exciting.

The concept thrives entirely on group dynamics. Fans of the chaotic goose will find this to be another potential long-running hit. Since cross-play is active between PS5, PC, and the announced Switch 2, there are no platform limitations when exploring together.

This is a seriously great deal for the community. Sony is massively upgrading its struggling PlayStation Plus Essential subscription just in time for late summer. Pure gameplay without paywalls from minute one. That's how it should be. The PlayStation Plus lineup for the Extra and Premium tiers this June will be revealed later this Wednesday. The Destiny 2 Collection (2025) is already available.

Can you actually enjoy these slower-paced "walker-talker" games, or do you absolutely need action and weapons in co-op?
