Until now, GTA IV could boast being one of the most expensive video game productions ever. That could now change with BioShock: Infinite.
According to the New York Times, citing an analyst as a source, the game's production costs were around $100 million. Added to this were marketing costs, which amounted to roughly the same sum again, meaning BioShock: Infinite would have cost approximately $200 million.
This will probably only be surpassed once more by GTA V in the fall, whose production costs are already estimated at up to $250 million.

(Update)
Series creator Ken Levine has since denied that the development costs were at this level.
