In the three-year development cycle of the Call of Duty series, Sledgehammer will release their second and standalone game next year, the development of which is currently in full swing.

The California-based studio is currently actively recruiting a large number of new developers, with over 40 open positions, including multiplayer designers, KoO designers, animation artists, weapon and vehicle artists, character designers, and many more. The job posting includes a reference to the next-gen Call of Duty, outlining the usual requirements and the ambition to elevate all elements to a new level.

Sledgehammer Games last released the futuristic shooter Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014, followed by Treyarch with Call of Duty: Black Ops III last year, meaning it's Infinity Ward's turn again this year. Whether Sledgehammer Games will produce a direct sequel to Advanced Warfare or perhaps return to a previous era is currently unclear.
