During the Summer Game Fest Opening on Thursday the first gameplay scenes from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II revealed that full service will resume in autumn Call of DutyIt promises action. However, especially in multiplayer, one spectacular feature is missing.
This was evident from a subsequent Q&A session (via) it was stated that the multiplayer component would have to do without large-scale destruction. Due to the complexity of multiplayer, there would be too many challenges requiring careful consideration of what is sensible and what is not. Therefore, the focus is more on cosmetic destruction.
The Q&A session states:
“No. We don’t have destruction. We can’t really afford to have it on a large scale across the entire map. I feel like the design language has to do that—we have special effects artists who really love the Jersey Barriers, those little concrete barriers you can work with. But if I can shoot that concrete, I should be able to shoot into the foundation of a house and everything else. We do as much as we can—it’s better to call it damage. Show damage, show wear and tear, show what happened without actually having structural pieces pop out.”
Therefore, it is primarily technical aspects that prevent the complete destruction of objects when using a highly dynamic game mode, as the text goes on to say:
"The challenges you face once you've integrated complete destruction are very difficult. [...] These things also end up with the challenge of visibility. Here you now have variable backgrounds, so you have to do other things in terms of room lighting and fill, and all these other things where you have to artificially represent things and characters in the environment."
Anyone who is a little disappointed by this can, as a last resort, resort to the campaign, which includes a full destruction feature.
