Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – OK gesture removed due to racism connection

Another story that might make some people want to bang their heads in disbelief, but nowadays nothing is impossible – especially given that something might not fit into the modern worldview.

This time it's affected Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, from which a certain, albeit very useful, gesture was removed – the OK gesture, which each of us has surely used at some point. It's particularly popular among divers, who use it to indicate that everything is OK, or in cooking to express how delicious something is. In the future, however, it could become somewhat more precarious, and one could immediately find oneself labeled a Nazi.

So that this in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare To prevent this from happening in the first place, the corresponding gesture has already been patched out of the game. Better safe than sorry, Infinity Ward must have thought.

But how did this happen?

It takes a lot of imagination, one might say at first. It all probably started on the 4chan forum as a kind of joke, where the typical OK gesture is supposed to form a W with the little, ring, and middle fingers, while the thumb and index finger form a P – short for 'White Power'. In a self-test, it really did take a lot of imagination to interpret these two letters or even to deduce a racist connection, especially since the three back fingers are more or less pointing straight upwards and not like in the picture.

The intention is not to condemn the gesture itself outright, but rather to address the fact that certain groups are simply misusing it for their own benefit, to the detriment of everyone else. Anyone who... Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Anyone who wants to convey that everything is OK shouldn't be surprised if they achieve the exact opposite. With a bit of imagination, one can surely find something else that clashes with someone else's worldview.
