Attention classic shooter fans: It seems two absolute legends of the Call of Duty franchise could soon be making a comeback on the PlayStation 5. As it turns out, the Australian classification authority New age ratings have been published – and they speak a pretty clear language.

We're talking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 However, these aren't the current reimaginings with Roman numerals, but rather the original versions that made shooter history. Particularly striking is the inclusion of terms like "Cross-Gen Edition" in the releases, and one entry explicitly mentions the PS5. This clearly indicates that Activision is planning more than just empty promises.

Remaster or reboot? What the clues really mean

A remaster of Modern Warfare 2The campaign was released for PS4 back in 2020 – without multiplayer and without much fanfare. The remaster of Modern Warfare 3 It has been considered finished for some time, but has never managed to escape the shadows of rumor. Until now?

The new age ratings could be the smokescreen for a raging fire. And usually, such a rating means the release isn't too far off. Perhaps Activision is planning a bundled re-release of the campaigns for the PS5 – ideal for nostalgic players or those who missed the golden age of Call of Duty.

Also focusing on last-gen players?

The fact that both titles are classified as "Cross-Gen Editions" also suggests that buyers will be able to play them not only on the PS5 but also on the PS4. This is convenient for those who haven't yet made the leap to the new console generation.

Nothing is official yet, but the signs are increasingly pointing in that direction. The new age ratings could be the final piece of evidence that Activision is working on PS5 remasters of the campaigns. This could mean we'll soon be joining Soap, Ghost, and Price in the virtual war again – this time with revamped graphics, a more stable frame rate, and modern quality-of-life features. For fans of the originals, this would be a real treat – and for newcomers, the perfect opportunity to catch up on these classics.
