The new update 1.09.00 for "Crimson Desert" is now live for PS5, Xbox, and PC. With this patch, the developers have delivered long-awaited quality-of-life features that make daily life in the game world significantly more relaxed.
The most important change concerns the controls. The team has finally implemented a feature for freely assigning controllers. An absolutely essential feature that comes far too late. But at least it's here now.
Collectors are also getting a significant boost. Approximately 30 new small animal species are now roaming the world and can be officially registered as pets. To complement this, there are new animations for picking up and putting down these companions.
For the more combat-oriented among us, there are new skills for Oongka and Damiane. The input works exactly like Kliff's well-known "Blinding Flash Finisher"—you have to unleash a heavy attack during the "Blinding Flash." Kliff himself has been nerfed, by the way: his exploits that allowed "Evasive Kick" and the finisher to be triggered even without sufficient Spirit are now permanently fixed.
The end of menu disasters
Those who do a lot of farming can breathe a sigh of relief. Seeds can now finally be placed directly into the quick slots and used from there. The constant rummaging through the inventory is a thing of the past.
In addition, there are tons of bug fixes that eliminate annoying blockers. The bug where the game froze after taking damage and dying in the "Pond Management" menu has been fixed. Legendary fish can no longer be donated accidentally. And bears no longer unsuccessfully try to eat fish thrown on the ground. Sounds bizarre, but it seems the AI was being blocked.
Highlights
- Free controller remapping is now available on almost all platforms
- Around 30 new small animal species are available as registrable pets in the game.
- New skills for Oongka and Damiane expand the combat system
- Farming convenience improved through direct use of seeds via Quickslots
- Fixes critical bugs in the menu navigation and animal AI.
The patch isn't groundbreaking, but it repairs the foundation. The free key bindings and quick slots for seeds show that the developers are listening to community feedback. It's precisely these quality-of-life updates that make the grind bearable in the long run. Not a huge content drop, but incredibly important for the gameplay flow.
What about you: Have you already found a favorite among the 30 new pets, or does the update, lacking real story content, not impress you?

It's all well and good with the new content and all, but instead of new animals, I'd prefer a new game plus feature. I mean, I'd like to try out my weapons and such in one mission or another, and not just keep repeating bosses or clearing quarry X for the thousandth time.
Lots of new pets again, but you can only have 30; they could have done with more.
