Crucial P310 M.2 SSD for PS5 – The perfect balance of speed and price

Crucial P310 SSD: The ideal storage expansion for PS5 gamers – impressive performance, easy installation and an unbeatable price to enhance your gaming experience.

To unlock the full potential of the PlayStation 5, you'll eventually need an additional SSD. Internal storage expansion is no longer a luxury, but rather a necessity. The Crucial P310 M.2 SSD is one of the most interesting options on the market in this regard, especially the heatsink version. It promises an excellent balance between performance, price, and ease of use. But can it truly deliver on its promises? In this review, we'll take a closer look at the Crucial P310 and examine whether it meets the PS5's requirements.

A solid leap forward

The Crucial P310 shines primarily with its impressive performance. With read speeds of up to 7.100 MB/s, it offers one of the highest speeds among Gen4 SSDs, making it almost twice as fast as Gen3 models. This speed advantage isn't just a theoretical plus – in practice, it translates into significant performance gains. The SSD also exceeds Sony's official specifications.. Combined with its high capacity of up to 2 TB, the Crucial P310 thus offers enough space for countless games to last until the end of the current generation.

Easy installation thanks to the heatsink version

Another advantage of the Crucial P310 is its newer heatsink design, which allows for one of the most convenient installations. While installing an SSD in the PS5 might initially pose a challenge for technically inexperienced users, the integrated heatsink ensures that the installation is practically plug-and-play. This means that even novices can easily expand the storage without worrying about additional cooling or complications. The heatsink protects the SSD from overheating and thus contributes to stable performance. A closer look at the SSD installation I have done so in the following video.

Energy efficiency and longevity

An often overlooked but crucial aspect of SSDs is energy efficiency. The Crucial P310 excels in this area, offering up to 40% better performance compared to previous models. For the PS5, this translates to significantly improved energy efficiency, which is beneficial during extended gaming sessions or continuous console use. The PS5 itself, with its sophisticated cooling system, ensures that any heat generated is immediately dissipated by the fan, preventing heat buildup.

Besides energy efficiency, the SSD's lifespan is also important. Crucial promises high reliability, which is crucial for the PS5 because users employ their console intensively for extended periods. With a lifespan of up to 1.200 TBW (Terabytes Written), the P310 offers enough capacity to provide the PS5 with additional storage for many years without having to worry about durability.

It doesn't get any cheaper than this.

The Crucial P310 M.2 SSD's biggest selling point is undoubtedly its price. Compared to other Gen4 SSDs on the market, the P310 is one of the more affordable options. And considering that the PS5 Pro or the standard PS5 will inevitably require more storage space sooner or later, the current price of around €130 for the 2TB version is an attractive solution for expanding storage capacity cost-effectively. While there are certainly SSD models that offer even more performance, the Crucial P310 is particularly appealing to those seeking a budget-conscious yet powerful expansion.

In summary, the Crucial P310 M.2 SSD with heatsink is one of the best options for PlayStation 5 users who need additional storage without breaking the bank. It not only offers sufficient performance for the PS5, but also easy installation and high energy efficiency. The heatsink version ensures stable operation and prevents overheating, even over extended periods. Therefore, anyone looking for a cost-effective, high-performance SSD for their PS5 should definitely consider the Crucial P310.

As I said, a no-name product for €210 and 4TB.
I have no problems, I just think 2TB is too small; it simply has to accommodate all the remakes, remasters, and cross-gen games.
