Crytek has now also released an official statement regarding the acquisition of Homefront IP in this week's THQ auction, assuring that nothing has changed with regard to development.
Crytek is now the full owner of Homefront IP, having acquired the franchise for $500.000. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli stated:
“Since we first signed an agreement to develop Homefront 2, we have been convinced of the IP and its potential to excite players. Our collaboration with THQ has always been positive, and we would like to thank them for their support over the past two years, as well as express our sympathy for those affected by the company’s recent events.”
The development of Homefront 2 continues as planned and is not at risk despite the demise of THQ.
“From day one, the Homefront 2 team has been working to create a game that takes the series to new heights and delivers the level of quality and innovation that Crytek is known for,” added Nick Button-Brown, General Manager of Games at Crytek. “Nothing has changed regarding the game’s development, and we look forward to sharing the finished product with players.”
The release date for Homefront 2 is still unclear. Electronic Arts, who have a long history of working with Crytek, are now suspected of being the publisher.
