Sony and Breaking Fourth are releasing the virtual reality short film 'Ctrl' this week, which has already won awards at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Raindance Film Festival in London.
In 'Crtl', you meet the e-sports player Liam, who is currently participating in a tournament and whom you can observe from the front row. As the atmosphere around you becomes increasingly tense and victory draws nearer, the story reveals what Liam is truly fighting for.
'Ctrl' promises a dark and profound story, according to Alyssia Frankland, Marketing Director at Breaking Fourth, writes about it:
"The story focuses on themes of power, control, and escapism. As soon as you turn on the PS VR headset, it transports you to fantastic 360-degree worlds and forces you to confront the unforgiving world in which the game character lives – and as the plot progresses, you may find yourself drawing parallels to your own experiences…"
The project draws on influences from London's theatre scene and the gaming world to give virtual reality a new twist by harnessing the power of presence and immersion.
Ctrl will be available for PlayStation VR from June 23rd.
