You'd think every day at CD Projekt was April Fools' Day. Their upcoming blockbuster is being... well, you know. Cyberpunk 2077 postponed.

The developer said this just announced on Twitter, which means the title will also miss the PS5 launch. The whole thing is rather surprising, since Cyberpunk 2077 has now reached gold status has. However, the reasons lie elsewhere this time, especially against the backdrop of the global challenges posed by the Corona pandemic.

CD Projekt writes the following:

"Most likely, you have many emotions and questions in your minds. Please accept our humble apologies first and foremost."

Our biggest challenge right now is delivering the game simultaneously on current-gen consoles, next-gen consoles, and PC. This means we have to prepare and test nine versions (Xbox One/X, Xbox Series S/X compatibility, PlayStation 4/Pro, PlayStation 5 compatibility, PC, Stadia, etc.) while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 has evolved into a next-gen title, we need to ensure everything works well and each version runs smoothly. We realize it might seem unrealistic to say that 21 days can make a difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.

There is also a statement regarding the previously released gold announcement:

"Some of you might be wondering what we mean when we say we reached Gold Master status a while ago. Passing certification, or 'going gold,' means the game is finished, ready to be completed, and contains all the necessary content. However, this doesn't mean we'll stop working on it and raising the bar for quality. On the contrary, this is the time when we implement many improvements, which will then be rolled out via a day-of-development patch. This is the timeframe we've factored in."

We feel we have a fantastic game in our hands and are prepared to make any decision, even the most difficult ones, if it ultimately results in you getting a video game that you will fall in love with.”

Cyberpunk 2077 It will now be released on December 10, 2020.

UpdateThe postponement of the game has Cyberpunk 2077 It is also disqualified from this year's The Game Awards and will therefore not be able to compete until 2021.
