Darwin's Paradox! A playable demo is now available on PS5 – and it's more than just a test run. Konami has given the adorable octopus adventure a distinct stealth focus, including a tongue-in-cheek nod to Metal Gear Solid. The release date has also been announced. April 2, 2026.

The demo is available for a limited time and even includes an exclusive Snake skin that can be used later in the main game. According to Konami, it's a bonus extra for everyone who checks it out now – not mandatory, but a nice incentive.

Metal Gear meets Octopus – gimmick or clever design?

The demo quickly makes it clear what to expect. Darwin's Paradox! The game's focus is on stealth, not frantic action. Camouflage, hiding in the environment, and the use of ink clouds are key. This doesn't feel like Metal Gear by accident; it's intentionally designed that way. The Easter eggs are clearly recognizable but tastefully remain in the background.

According to Konami, this is a specially designed demo section. How strongly this stealth DNA permeates the entire game remains to be seen. The crossover seems more like a thematic framework than a binding design guideline, a point worth keeping in mind.

What Darwin's Paradox! playfully aims to achieve

Beyond the playing with references, Darwin's Paradox! Built on a classic but solid foundation: a puzzle-platformer with a focus on abilities. Darwin can climb, camouflage himself, manipulate objects, and avoid enemies instead of confronting them head-on. The scenario – an alien-controlled industrial complex – provides ample opportunity for puzzles, patrols, and environmental interaction.

Whether the gameplay remains varied later on depends heavily on the level design. The demo shows promising approaches, but doesn't yet reveal how long these ideas will remain viable.

The demo of Darwin's Paradox! It's a clever appetizer: short, unusual, and with a clear anchor of identity. The Metal Gear twist works as long as the game underneath is more than just a gimmick. We'll see on April 2nd, 2026, whether Darwin can impress even without his camouflage suit.
