Deep Silver continues to pursue the development of 'Dead Island 2', which had virtually disappeared into obscurity after several developers lost the contract.
Originally, the Berlin-based developer Yager was supposed to finish the game, but their fun co-op approach didn't go down well with Deep Silver. The game then moved to Sumo Digital, and since then, there has been virtually no news about it. was said herethat Sumo Digital would no longer be working on it, but rather Deep Silver's own studio Dambuster, although this was never officially confirmed.
As part of THQ Nordic's current quarterly report However, it has been confirmed that work on Dead Island 2 is still ongoing. The project is described as... "lively" It has been described and work is underway. Unfortunately, no further information is available at this time. It seems unlikely that a release will be forthcoming, as there is currently very little information available about the game.
However, if one looks at current job offers Deep Silver Dambuster lists several open positions that could well point to a Dead Island game, including Combat Designer, Facial Animator, Environment Artist and others, all advertised for a Triple-A console game of an established franchise.
Update: Somewhat unexpectedly, Dead Island 2 has now appeared for pre-order in the Microsoft Store, with a potential release this year. However, it's still using the artwork and slogan from the original developer Yager, so this might be a mistake.
