The Dead or Alive series is distinguished, among other things, by focusing more on female attributes than is the case in other fighting games.
Just think of the intro sequence of Dead or Alive 4, which was reminiscent of softcore pornography. According to Tecmo Koei boss Yosuke Hayashi, this will change with the upcoming installment. The game is intended to be more emotionally engaging, with the level of violence meaningfully integrated. It aims to encourage adult players to reflect on their experiences.
The aim is also to defuse sexism directed at women, focusing on their large, bouncy breasts or buttocks, and to shift the focus to the character behind the image. This should lead to greater respect for women and a more realistic portrayal.
Dead or Alive 5 will be released in 2012.
