Dead or Alive 6 Last Round will be released on June 25, 2026 for PS5, Xbox & PC. Includes Mai Shiranui, Kula Diamond and the new OBORO lighting system.

Koei Tecmo is bringing the definitive version of "Dead or Alive 6" to the current generation of consoles with "Last Round," integrating Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond directly as DLC at launch. The upgrade focuses primarily on technical optimizations through the Katana Engine and an expanded starting roster, aiming to win back the fighting game community on June 25, 2026.

The return of the guest stars

Team NINJA's renewed partnership with SNK is a smart move for the launch of the Last Round Edition. Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond were already popular DLC characters in 2019; their immediate availability at launch (along with a five-piece costume set) ensures a broad competitive field from day one. In addition to the 24 standard characters, former DLC fighters like Momiji, Rachel, and Tamaki are now also included.

The selection is interesting here. While the roster in “Dead or Alive 6 Last Round“While the game’s balance is growing significantly, it remains the biggest hurdle for the development team, as the SNK characters traditionally bring a slightly different rhythm to DOA’s counter-based triangle system.”

Technological leap through “OBORO”

The most important new feature for owners of current hardware is the newly introduced "OBORO" system within the Katana Engine.

  • Improved Lighting: The stage “LOST PARADISE” serves as a showcase for the new lighting system.
  • Realism focus: By calculating natural ambient light and shadows, the characters appear less "plastic," which was one of the main criticisms of the original 2019 graphic style.
  • Successive updates: Team NINJA plans to gradually equip more stages with the OBORO upgrade, which suggests longer-term live service support.

Koei Tecmo is sticking to its two-pronged strategy. "Core Fighters" is launching alongside the full version. Three extremely popular characters – Marie Rose, Honoka, and NiCO – are available to play for free. This is a necessary step to quickly populate the servers for the online modes "DOA Quest" and "DOA Central." This also lowers the barrier for newcomers to try out the new lighting system and the faster weapon handling.

The Last Round Edition is less of a revolution than a necessary technical modernization. The OBORO system promises visual depth that the game lacked in 2019, and the integration of the SNK characters provides the necessary content boost at launch.

Great….
I was so happy that Mai and Kula weren't going to be there anymore, and now they're coming back. What a shame.
From a gameplay perspective, the two of them simply don't fit into DOA.

Interestingly, SNNK seems to be taking their licenses lightly; otherwise, May would have been exclusive to SF6. Money doesn't stink.
Regarding Temco, I'm not sure why the game costs €40, even for people who already own the original? NRS only charged €10 for MK11 when they released it for PS5, and all the guest characters were included as long as you had purchased them in the PS4 version. That's a shabby practice on Temco's part. I'm not sure if this will attract enough people, especially for the later release of Dead or Alive 7. The competition is huge, and the market is saturated—what are some publishers thinking? And by the way, Mai looks better in SF6. Mai and Terry look so good that you don't feel the need to play Kof or Fatal Fury 2 to see these characters. It was the same with Tekken 7, where Akuma and Geese were playable and replaced SF5 and Kof14 (SNK in general). DoA6 doesn't do anything better than its competitors; on the contrary, it not only damages its own reputation but also SNK's. Well, SNK is a special case: so much money from the Saudis, such great legacy characters, but it's not competitive. Then it makes sense; it's a perfect match.
