Hideo Kojima returned at this week's Sony press conference with his new project 'Death Stranding', and further details have now been revealed.
Work on the game is therefore still in its very early stages, as the studio itself, based in Tokyo, is still being established. Currently, many interviews are taking place before full production can begin. According to Kojima, the inspiration for Death Stranding comes from Kobo Abe's short stories titled 'Rope,' which tell the story of how humanity's first tool was a stick, used to ward off unwanted things or as a weapon. This was followed by rope, which was used to hold things together and bring people closer together.
Action title in the Metal Gear style
In terms of the game, one acts similarly, hitting and shooting, but also forming close relationships. The teaser The trailer already showed various animals such as crabs, whales, dolphins, and even a baby still attached by its umbilical cord, highlighting the theme of 'connection' in Death Stranding. Ultimately, one can expect a game in the style of Metal Gear Solid, with a strong focus on action, and the game world's appearance is already clearly defined.
Which engine will be used later has not yet been definitively decided, but the studio tour around the world has already narrowed it down to two candidates.
The release date for Death Stranding is currently unclear.
