Our preview of Destiny 2: Renegades Bungie is now venturing into territory that many hadn't expected from the studio: an expansion that blends familiar series DNA with Star Wars influences without becoming a mere homage. Instead of a copy, it feels... Renegades like a bold step into an era where Destiny takes more risks again.

Guardians embark on a story that deliberately positions them outside the strict Vanguard structures, an approach that brings fresh narrative momentum. Together with the Drifter, their path leads them into a web of deals, loyalties, and shadow alliances. The new social zone, the Tharsis Outpost on Mars, serves as a hub for all those who wish to operate on the fringes.

Lawless Frontier: Progress that truly feels earned.

The centerpiece of the expansion is the Lawless Frontier, an activity that derives its replay value from freedom of choice and increasing challenges. Jobs like smuggling, bounty hunting, or sabotage don't feel like filler, but rather like small stories that, taken together, form a believable criminal ecosystem.

The new Notoriety path gives the whole thing structure. The freethinking Eliksni of the Pikers, the individualistic Vex of the Tharsis Reformation, and the rogue Cabal of the Totality Division offer different motivations and rewards. Those who wish can even use the new Invasion feature to let other players invade their missions—a risk that simultaneously provides additional incentives.

Renegade abilities expand the familiar class model with powerful tactical options that noticeably impact combat. They don't feel cluttered, but rather like targeted tools that Bungie deliberately created for this kind of playstyle.

New weapons, new systems – and a dungeon that puts on the pressure.

The new blaster category uses heat instead of magazines, which changes the timing in combat. The Praxic Blade – a kinetic Exotic sword variant – comes with several mod paths that clearly influence playstyle. In addition, there are new Exotics like the Solar Crossbow Heirloom and the Beach Machine Gun. Service of Luzaku as well as new classroom items.

On December 13th, the following will follow: Equilibrium Additionally, there's a dungeon that leads Guardians to a Cabal warship. Together with Aunor Mahal, they fight against followers of Dredgen Bael – thematically a logical extension of the Renegades conflict.

As usual, Bungie rewards are available at launch, which can be unlocked by completing Triumphs and then purchased physically. For players who are planning a long-term investment, the Ultimate Edition of Year of Prophecy is likely the most comprehensive package.

Destiny 2: Renegades After a long time, it feels like a change of course, not radical, but deliberate. Bungie is elevating familiar systems to a level that gives players more responsibility, more freedom, and more identity.
