Square Enix is working on a new Dragon Quest game, which is in development for the PS5 and the next generation of consoles in general. The publisher announced this today on a dedicated recruitment page.

Behind the game is the team behind Dragon Quest VI, one of Square Enix's most important studios, with a long history of experience with the Dragon Quest series. In a message from Square Enix Development Team Director and Dragon Quest XI Director Takeshi Uchikawa, he says:

"The second development division has launched a new project, produced by the 'Dragon Quest XI' team, challenging Dragon Quest to be something unique for the next generation. The mission of this project is to showcase the renewed appeal of Dragon Quest to customers worldwide. To achieve this, we need new 'friends' with the same aspirations."

Otherwise, it is said that the concept phase for the game is already complete and they are now moving into main development, where they are focusing on quality, among other things. Dragon Quest designer Yuri Horii has also joined the team specifically for this purpose, and he will create an unprecedented experience and a brand-new story in the Dragon Quest universe.

The release date for the new Dragon Quest HD is currently unclear. However, the current state of development suggests that the title will be released in the first year of the new consoles' launch.
