Techland's 'Dying Light 2' is also among the candidates that, due to its planned release date in spring 2020, are potential cross-gen releases. This is especially true now that the developer has confirmed its intention to support the survival title for several years.
According to the Producer Kornel Jaskula The fact that the new consoles will be available next year is seen as less of a problem. No negative impact is expected from it. On the contrary, Techland is confident that the current generation will remain relevant for quite some time.
"There are many current-generation consoles out there, so we believe they won't be scrapped immediately after the release of the new console generation. There will be many consoles that still need support. Players will continue to use current-generation consoles, which is why the market remains as large as it is. So there won't be fewer players."
While few developers are currently confirming that their latest projects will be released for next-gen consoles, statements like these imply it to a certain extent. Furthermore, Sony fully expects the transition to next-gen to happen even faster this time around, so it's reasonable to assume that developers will follow suit.
