With E3 just a few months away, speculation is rife about the potential presentations from major publishers. Besides numerous software titles, potential price reductions are also a hot topic this year.
While it's already known that Microsoft will be focusing on Project Scorpio, analysts don't expect Sony to present new hardware again so soon. According to Michael Goodman of Digital Media Strategies, their focus will most likely be on new games for PS4 and PlayStation VR.
"In some ways, Sony's E3 is one of the interesting things because they don't have anything specific. Last year they showed their new hardware. I think they're going back to a more traditional mid-stage event at E3, where it's more about software. So I don't share the view that they'll announce any new hardware."
However, this does not rule out the possibility that the first price reductions for PlayStation VR could be announced, even though the current sustained demand for it does not seem necessary.
"We might see a price cut for PlayStation VR. Price cuts could be the main focus, but the biggest story will be the software that's released. Sony has positioned their hardware, and now they need to make the software sing. Sony's E3 will revolve around software, even if it might be somewhat overshadowed, since hardware always takes center stage."
Furthermore, a price reduction for the PS4 is not expected until the end of the year, when Microsoft launches its Project Scorpio and they want to offer at least a price advantage.
