With the upcoming release of 'Star Wars: Battlefront', Electronic Arts is far from finished and has long-term plans for the franchise.
Besides the game from DICE, at least one other installment is currently in development at Visceral Games. EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen commented on the future of the franchise at the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco:
"This is a huge opportunity for us; and I don't think there's anyone in the world who hasn't heard of the Star Wars films. We signed a licensing deal with Disney a few years ago that covers at least 10 years. The game launching tomorrow is a traditional first-person shooter. Our goal is to develop more Battlefront games alongside other genres based on the Star Wars franchise, on mobile platforms, consoles, and PC. This is a huge opportunity for us."
EA's debut with Star Wars: Battlefront is currently going somewhat slowly, as the first reviews of the game The game currently lands mostly in the average range, which is largely attributed to the lack of a single-player campaign.
Star Wars: Battlefront will officially be released on November 19, 2015.
