Just a few days ago, reports surfaced that Electronic Arts is once again looking for potential studio acquisitions. One would therefore assume that the publisher is in good financial shape, especially considering its impressive and successful portfolio of releases over the past few months.
Nevertheless, rumors about the takeover of the publisher itself are circulating again, as reported by the business magazine Bloomberg. According to the report, the Asian free-to-play provider Nexon is planning to acquire the mega publisher, known for the Marple franchise, among others.
The reasons could lie in Electronic Arts' massive spending, particularly on the marketing budgets for Battlefield 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic; and this spending was sustained. The announcement of the acquisition immediately drove Electronic Arts' stock price up.
Neither Electronic Arts nor Nexon would comment on the report. However, Electronic Arts will present its annual financial statements on May 07th, which should clarify the company's financial situation.
