Codemasters officially announced the new Formula 1 season today with 'F1 2016', which will bring you numerous challenges again this summer.

The new career mode in F1 2016 will immerse players even deeper into the glamorous, exciting, and prestigious world of motorsport, both on and off the track. The inclusion of the Safety Car and Virtual Safety Car promises even greater realism. Furthermore, the addition of the new Baku street circuit in Azerbaijan for the 2016 European Grand Prix will present drivers with an extra, thrilling challenge.

“F1 2016 is a huge step forward for the franchise,” says Lee Mather, Principal Games Designer at Codemasters. “Career mode sits at the heart of the game, allowing players to create their own legend in a career that can span up to ten seasons. Beyond the fastest and most thrilling racing experience on the track, F1 2016 also offers the gripping drama of car development behind the scenes. A comprehensive car upgrade system is deeply embedded in a new and detailed training and development program that replicates real-life team testing.

“The career mode, along with the return of the Safety Car, the first-ever introduction of the virtual Safety Car and a host of other, as yet unannounced improvements, mean that F1 2016 will offer more new features than any previous year of the entire franchise,” Mather continues.

About the career mode

In the new career mode, players choose their own avatar, which not only represents them in the game world but also provides a starting number that accompanies them throughout their career. They then join a FORMULA ONE team of their choice, each with different goals and expectations for its drivers. Perhaps it's more challenging to start lower in the pecking order to more easily meet the team's expectations. You negotiate new contracts and thus move from team to team. Or you can develop your favorite team into a true championship contender.

To complement the on-track experience and enhance the realism of the career mode, F1 2016 features impressive retreat areas and lounges for each team, serving as central hubs for the player. In these spaces, drivers, along with their research team, development engineers, and agents, will work together on their progress both on and off the track. To further immerse players in the world of Formula 1, they also have the opportunity to encounter key figures from the real world in their retreat areas.

According to Codemasters, 2016 will be an exciting season, and with the latest addition to the Formula 1 calendar, Baku in Azerbaijan, the season already boasts what could be the fastest street circuit of all time. Early screenshots released today also showcase the new time-of-day editor, allowing players to drastically alter the visuals of their racing experience. Additionally, the brand-new Haas F1 Team will make its debut in the 2016 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, marking the first time in three decades that Formula 1 has featured a purely American-owned team.

F1 2016 will be released in the third quarter of 2016.
