Playground Games announces the first Fable DLC well ahead of its 2027 release. Information on gameplay and story of Order of the Hero.

Long before its official release in 2027, the first DLC for "Fable" has been announced – and will soon showcase new gameplay. The "Order of the Hero" expansion lets you control a cult in Albion. A detailed gameplay presentation will follow on Wednesday.

In the story expansion, you infiltrate an ancient cult. Instead of simply fighting the group, you take control. You determine the rituals and steer the faction in a direction of your choosing—whether noble, wicked, or completely bizarre. This is classic Fable gameplay: good versus evil. The choice is yours.

Curious timing at Microsoft

The timing of the announcement is curious. The Xbox Games Showcase trailer didn't mention the expansion at all. Now we know: the DLC is already included in the Premium Edition and the Premium Upgrade. This leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The main game is still months away, yet DLC plans are already in place, which reeks of maximum paywall.

This included concrete information about the main game and its cast. actress hayley atwell takes on the role of the character Isabel. Much more importantly for waiting fans: A detailed gameplay presentation will follow on Wednesday, June 10th.

Playground Games needs to deliver. Beautiful trailers are no longer enough. We need real, uncut gameplay to dispel the skepticism.

The DLC announcement before the actual release is annoying and feels premature. However, the gameplay concept revolving around the cult leadership perfectly captures the old Fable charm. Wednesday's gameplay presentation will reveal whether the RPG's foundation is truly solid.

What do you think about DLC announcements months before the actual release: Does this dampen your anticipation for the main game, or does your curiosity about the cult mechanics outweigh it?

I've been a fan since the very beginning and I've already experienced a Fable game being completely canceled and never released, despite various development phases and existing trailers. Every installment, except for the nonsense with the covered wagon, the horse, and that motion control, has its charm. I've been waiting for years for new content, and I mean, come on, let them release the DLC and charge extra. If you don't like it, then don't be so impatient and just buy the game on sale.

Guys, this is a DAYONE DLC. I've never seen anything so greedy.
They just want to sell you the €99 Premium Pass, or an extra €30 for Game Pass. DUDE, THAT'S A PURE RIP-OFF.
Sell me the complete game or not at all. I understand selling a DLC after an additional development effort. But cutting out part of the game and then selling it separately is pure GREED.
I bought 1000 games, but I will definitely pirate this one on principle; not a single cent for such tactics.

Honestly, it's not a big deal. Nobody minds it in Anno, and nobody minds it in Monster Hunter or King of the Disaster. I'm glad Fable is getting more content after the main game. DLCs need to be planned in advance, too.
