Far Cry Primal is receiving a free 60 FPS update for PS5. Here's why the higher frame rate noticeably benefits the Stone Age adventure.

Ubisoft has now also released the free 60-FPS update for Far Cry: Primal confirmed that this coincides with Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be available. Starting January 21st, the Stone Age adventure will run on PS5 and PS5 Pro with twice the frame rate.

The content remains unchanged, as the focus is on performance from a technical perspective. Far Cry Primal It is playable via Ubisoft+ Classics, PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium, as well as through individual purchase. Therefore, it is Far Cry: Primal the final title, which Ubisoft will technically bring up to current console standards this week.

Why Far Cry Primal particularly benefits from 60 FPS

Far Cry: Primal It's slower, heavier, and more direct than its siblings in the series. Melee combat, spear throws, animal companions, and frantic escapes from mammoths or saber-toothed tigers demand precise controls. This is precisely where 60 FPS makes all the difference.

Movements appear smoother, hits are more easily tracked, and the camera reacts more precisely. This isn't just a cosmetic improvement, but a noticeable increase in comfort. Far Cry: Primal Anyone who has only ever experienced 30 FPS will immediately notice the difference, especially in combat and during rapid changes of direction.

Exploring the open world also benefits, as you explore the forests, plains, and caves, which feel calmer and more stable without the technology constantly demanding your attention.

Animals, weapons, survival – unchanged, but better playable.

As with the other two classics, the same applies to Far Cry: Primal Content-wise, everything remains the same. Over a dozen tameable animals, from wolves and cave bears to mammoths, populate the game world. Weapons are still crafted from stone, wood, and bone. There are no new textures, no higher resolution, and no additional effects.

The update modernizes Far Cry: Primal So it's not just about the visuals; it makes it more playable and catapults it from the Stone Age to the year 2026. A title that relies so heavily on immersion and closeness benefits significantly from smooth presentation.

Ubisoft is joining in Far Cry: Primal the line continues, which already has Far Cry 3 and Far Cry: Blood Dragon Work has begun. Older titles aren't getting major overhauls, but they are being technically toned down. A full remaster will probably remain wishful thinking, but for those... Far Cry: Primal Anyone who wants to relive it or catch up for the first time will now get the best console version.

I have to say, Far Cry 3 still looks good on PS5 even after 13 years.

I still have so many games open and installed.
I see absolutely no reason to reinstall such old games.

I already finished playing it 5 years ago and capped it at 80 fps back then.

I tested it yesterday, the 20th, on the Series X because it's on Game Pass. It was already running at 60 FPS yesterday.

Melanie Büscher: Yes, for years now on the X and S thanks to the Xbox FPS Boost program 😊. But now it's officially patched by Ubisoft.

Tim Jo, no, the Classic Edition doesn't have an FPS boost.

Wow, we have a PS5/PS5 Pro… now we're slowly but surely getting all the old games to run at 60 fps :D… with new games… we just have to hope they run smoothly at 60 fps… sad. A PC is coming soon.

Has anything been improved in the graphics, or is it just 60fps?

Hey Andy, is this a new trophy set because I already have the Platinum trophy in the game?

Marcus Werner, but why should it get a new set or a few trophies just because of 60fps?

Marcus Werner, of course. But still, what do the "new" fps have to do with the list?
That's what I don't understand 😅
It's not a DLC or remake or anything like that where there might be changes.

It's running in 60fps now... I didn't even know it was the 21st today!
