Impulse Gear's VR shooter 'Farpoint' has gone gold, meaning its release on May 17th is guaranteed. They've also released a new story trailer today.

Furthermore, the story takes a slightly different approach, as Randy Nolta from Impulse Gear explains:

“I think we came up with a pretty extraordinary science fiction story, especially for a shooter. The characters are stranded, have to ensure their survival, and get to know each other at the same time. All of this is really emotional; we wanted the characters to get under your skin and be truly believable. Their fate should move you.”

This is achieved, among other things, by leveraging the immersive feeling of VR, such as when people are standing directly in front of you and looking you in the eye. The perceived proximity to the other characters alone makes a huge difference. Furthermore, state-of-the-art techniques like skin shaders and morphing are employed, enabling extremely realistic faces.

Sony has provided more information on this today in a special feature on the Official PlayStation Blog for you.
