Square Enix is using the Summer Game Fest for the grand reveal of the trilogy finale. The first trailer for "Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3: Revelation" confirms a simultaneous release for all platforms in spring 2027.
Total gameplay offensive in the first trailer
The trailer shown focuses entirely on confrontation, highlighting the epic mud battle against Sephiroth. We see Cloud and his party in fast-paced fights against colossal creatures. The developers showcase real, tangible gameplay for a variety of characters. No rendered bluffs, just pure in-engine action.
The biggest bombshell, however, concerns the platforms. "Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: Revelation" will be released simultaneously on day one for PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and the new Switch 2. The era of artificial PlayStation exclusivity is finally over. The community is celebrating.
Finally, all players worldwide can experience the finale simultaneously, without having to wait months or years for ports. The timing of the announcement couldn't be better. Exactly today, the ports of its direct predecessor, "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth," were released for Xbox and the Switch 2. The marketing machine is running perfectly in sync.
“FINAL FANTASY VII, first released in 1997, has been beloved by fans for many years and has since become a legend. The FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE project, which began in 2020 with the passionate support of everyone, finally reaches its crowning conclusion with FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. The end of this story reflects the emotions that have accompanied me throughout the thirty years I've worked on this title—and yet, as developers, we cannot turn the final page alone. Only when you embark on this journey and cherish it will a new legend finally be born. We hope you will keep us in your hearts.” – Yoshinori Kitase, Producer
The end of the wait
For over two years, Square Enix kept the community waiting just to reveal the name of this game. Expectations are sky-high after "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth." Now, the trailer delivers exactly what fans have needed after countless teasers, DLC rumors, and hints from the developers: a clear sign of life.
However, it's also clear that this first teaser only scratches the surface. Players are already demanding a comprehensive deep-dive event that breaks down the new gameplay mechanics and the promised freedom of play in detail.
Beyond the impressive trailer, there are some interesting tidbits from the development team. The director of the remake has hinted that he would like to hand over the reins for a potential "Final Fantasy 6 Remake" to someone else. Furthermore, there is already open discussion within Square Enix about possible post-launch content. A DLC for Part 3 or even a completely new, full-price title set in the same universe are being considered. So, the saga might not be quite over with Revelation.
The simultaneous multi-platform announcement is the most important news of the entire event. Square Enix is delivering exactly what modern gamers demand: no more barriers. The gameplay shown looks fantastic and promises a worthy, bombastic finale for this mammoth trilogy.
What do you think of the name "Revelation" and what do you think about Square Enix completely abandoning exclusivity?

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain and RE Veronica were probably the most impressive games from the Asian segment at the show! I'm very curious to see how the finale of the reimagining plays and to what extent it's been optimized for the current console generation.
For me, this is definitely an incentive to install the first two parts, which have been in my library since release and remain unplayed, and to tackle them before release.
Lucky you! I fired up Rebirth again to max out a few challenges with the boost function. I've forgotten all the gameplay mechanics, and since the UI looks different in each installment and new gameplay mechanics are added, getting back into it is difficult. I hope that one day a complete version will come out with a unified UI and a continuous progression system. The graphics aren't the problem; the games even look great on the base PS5 and run at 60fps.
It took a long time and a lot of perseverance to wait for the series finale, and I hope it was worth it 😉
I do the same with TV series; I only watch them when they're complete.
It looks awesome, finally I can finish playing my first PS1 game in all its glory, but Square Enix won't get away without criticism.
What on earth were they thinking, making skins actually make you stronger (yeah, probably to make money and sell DLC)?
This dilutes and fragments the combat system even more and drags out the progression. Sure, I also wish FF7 would never end, but good grief, how hard can it be to maintain consistency across three games? Like I said, even Capcom manages it with their RE Engine titles, even though they're all different, with different characters, gameplay, and time periods. And yes, the UI is different again, too.
