Final Fantasy VII Revelation breaks with the structure of its predecessors. Square Enix delivers a true endgame, superbosses, level 99, and an entire planet.

Square Enix has removed the second playthrough as the primary long-term motivation in "Final Fantasy VII Revelation," replacing it with a classic endgame featuring superbosses and a level cap removed. The game thus changes the structure of its two predecessors to focus on maximizing character potential within a cohesive world.

Weapons and Level 99 instead of New Game Plus

Character development is discussed in "Final Fantasy VII Revelation"No longer artificially capped. Players can reach level 99, which is the driving force behind the newly integrated endgame content. Previously, the predecessors required a restart on the hard difficulty setting to get the most out of the characters."

Director Naoki Hamaguchi, according to Everyeye.it instead, it focuses on classic virtues of the original RPGs: "There will be weapons and enemies that are even stronger than the final boss of the main story." This abandonment of the linear repetition requirement shifts the gameplay focus. The emphasis is now on the final grind and defeating optional bosses directly in the first save file.

Scaling the open world to planetary scale

The game world also departs from the interconnected zones and is intended to depict the entire planet Gaia. Hamaguchi distances himself from the usual open-world structures of the industry, which mostly simulate only a single, contiguous landmass. "It's not just about the continent you're on, but also about the oceans that connect it, the sky, and other continents.""That's what the director said. The technical challenge lies in the seamless transition between land, water, and air to convey the feeling of a real globe. This far surpasses the scale of Rebirth."

The narrative conclusion of the compilation

The title of the third installment is a calculated statement to the community, which has been speculating for years about alternate timelines and the fate of the characters. The game is intended to answer all the open questions raised by the altered plot of the first two installments. As the name suggests, Revelation simply means that there will be many revelations in the third and final chapter of the trilogy.” Hamaguchi promises.

The conclusion isn't limited to the current trilogy. The developers tie together the threads of the entire compilation, including specific references to Advent Children, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. Revelation serves as the final chapter of a complex saga that has grown over twenty years.

The decision to forgo artificial level caps and integrate genuine superbosses is the right step for an RPG finale. Players want to test their builds in the endgame, not in a forced second playthrough. However, the planetary open world remains a technical hurdle: Square Enix must prove that the oceans and skies are meaningfully populated and don't degenerate into empty transit spaces. If they succeed, Revelation will deliver precisely the substance that the genre has often lacked recently.

I'm curious to see what the starting level will be. Level 70? Or level 50, and you have to level up the remaining levels plus the 20 levels you already gained in the previous game? So many questions! Anyway, at least it's finally complete.
