Final Fantasy VIII – Potential remake not by Kitase

Should a remake of 'Final Fantasy VIII' ever happen, long-time Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase would probably not be involved.

Work is still underway on the Final Fantasy VII remake, which will be released in 2020. However, there is already speculation about another remake, the development of which would be left to up-and-coming talent, as Kitase stated in the current issue of Famitsu. The article reads:

"If the younger generation, who inherit the Final Fantasy genes, can do it, I want it to be done. For Final Fantasy VII Remake, the project stemmed from my desire to develop Final Fantasy VII with today's technology while I'm still at Square Enix. I would love to see Final Fantasy VIII Remake made by the younger generation at Square Enix."

Kitase himself served as director on the original Final Fantasy VIII, where he was responsible for the story, system design, event scenes, and more. Whether he'll ever get a remake remains to be seen.
