Developer Superlou has officially announced the single-player horror game "Finding Frankie 2" for PC, while the console version will follow at a later date.
The sequel again relies on the combination of first-person parkour and mascot horror, but this time relocates the scenario to the final season of a deadly, fictional television show.
Players compete against 99 computer-controlled opponents for a $10 million in-game grand prize. The gameplay consists of wall runs, rail grinds, sliding, and trampoline jumps. Superlou expands the area compared to its predecessor (our reviewTo reiterate: In this genre, bigger often means less action. Here, the density of traps and chases is meant to keep the pace high. Period.
Gameplay mechanics and gaming role models
The gameplay progression is once again strictly tied to the show's concept, often ending in death. In other words, brutal eliminations of competitors dictate the gameplay as the player completes obstacle courses and arena challenges.
The developers explicitly cite examples like Five Nights at Freddy's, Poppy Playtime, and Bendy and the Ink Machine. The monster design is clearly inspired by this popular indie horror trend. The focus is on jump scares and time-sensitive chases.
Whether the parkour mechanics in Part 2 are even more precise for the announced, complex parkour sections remains to be seen. The franchise definitely has room for improvement, and spongy springs kill the atmosphere faster than any monster.
"Finding Frankie 2" successfully fills the established niche of content creator horror, but expands the concept with mechanical challenges through skill-based elements. For players, the announcement primarily means more of the same, only in a larger, more vertical environment. Those who enjoyed the predecessor for its combination of movement and terror will find this a logical evolution. A final release date or platform plans for consoles are still pending.
