Is it really possible to combine a relaxing console gaming session with a decent amount of fitness without sacrificing the fun? Sony and Microsoft may provide us with captivating worlds, but we're still responsible for burning those calories ourselves. We put the FlexiSpot MotionX Pro to the test.

FlexiSpot sends with the FlexiSpot MotionX Pro A walking pad has entered the fray, aiming to bridge the gap between gamer stereotype and fitness enthusiast. Anyone who thinks that movement while gaming is just a nice gimmick underestimates the technical aspect. While graphics, sound, and accessibility have long been pushed to their limits, your physical fitness often falls by the wayside. In the end, it's no longer just skill that determines victory, but your setup that dictates the subsequent muscle soreness.

The image used to be clear: the gamer huddled in a dark basement, surrounded by bags of chips. Those days are over. Gaming has long since entered the mainstream, and a huge portion of the community is meticulously mindful of their physical condition. We've all experienced it: you start a game and suddenly three hours have passed without you moving an inch. This is precisely where the concept of the Walking Pad comes in. It's not about running a marathon while slaying dragons, but about replacing inactivity with a natural, fundamental movement.

Assembly without crafting time

FlexiSpot understands that gamers don't want to deal with complex tutorials on furniture assembly. FlexiSpot MotionX Pro It comes out of the box as a single unit. You fold up the handle, lock it in place, plug in the power cord, and you're ready to go. No annoying search for the right wrench, no puzzling over the instructions. The device weighs just under 25 kg net. That's sturdy enough for stability up to a 120 kg user weight, but light enough to easily move into a corner after your workout thanks to the transport wheels. The Pro version also includes a handrail and an iPad holder. All models also feature a safety magnetic key, without which the treadmill won't even start or will automatically stop if contact is lost.

Delivery was as quick as usual, and anyone who already owns FlexiSpot products will appreciate the build quality. It's not a high-end, professional-grade machine designed for 24/7 continuous use, but for home use, everything feels sturdy, well-made, and thoughtfully designed. Those familiar with the standard model will immediately notice the performance increase. The MotionX Pro doesn't limit itself to a leisurely 6 km/h, but lets you cover considerable distance at up to 10 km/h. This allows for genuine running, making it a clear winner compared to simply sitting still. A little tip: To ensure a safe and comfortable running experience and avoid feeling cramped, avoid placing the treadmill in a corner or directly against a wall.

The controller is your life insurance.

Anyone who thinks they can land precise headshots with the mouse while walking is in for a rude awakening. The problem is biomechanics. Your upper body sways ever so slightly when you walk, no matter how hard you concentrate. These micro-movements are directly transferred to your mouse arm and thus to the cursor. The result is misclicks in menus and a crosshair that wanders wildly in shooters.

Instead, definitely use a controller. Since your hands are positioned in front of your body, your upper body forms a cohesive unit, and your brain compensates for the walking movements almost perfectly – a bit like in VR. Your thumbs remain steady on the analog sticks while your legs move freely under your desk or in front of the TV. This simply takes some getting used to, especially compared to the smaller walking surface of a typical gym treadmill. The controller also allows for relaxed shoulder posture, which is essential during longer sessions to prevent tension.

Strategy beats action

Your choice of game determines whether the FlexiSpot MotionX Pro ends up as an expensive clothes rack or a fitness booster. Forget "Call of Duty" or "Arc Raiders." In titles that demand frame-perfect reactions, you won't stand a chance if you also have to worry about your balance. The goldmine lies in games for relaxation, so-called cozy games, or simulations.

You can cruise along at your leisure, read dialogues, and plan your parks while the odometer ticks up. Your brain is so engrossed in strategy that physical exertion fades completely into the background. According to tests, hiking for 30 minutes at the maximum 7% incline burns around 50 extra calories compared to walking on flat terrain, depending on your body weight. In running mode, this figure rises to 38 calories after just 10 minutes and about one kilometer. That might not sound like much, but consider the impact of a two-hour gaming session. You'll leave the game not just with a victory, but with a solid workout in your legs.

Gaming worked flawlessly up to 5 km/h. The remote control offers a choice: gentle walking from 1 km/h up to intense running at 10 km/h. The latter separates casual users from fitness enthusiasts. The speed also ultimately determines the noise level.

Technical check and mandatory maintenance

The MotionX Pro's panel is simple and functional. It displays time, distance, speed, and calories. One minor drawback for the local market: speed and distance are measured in MPH, which can be confusing at first if you're used to km/h. The noise level also remains below 65 dB. So your neighbors or roommates won't be disturbed, as long as you don't start sprinting at 10 km/h.

The MotionX Pro isn't a maintenance-free console accessory like a headset. According to the manufacturer, you need to apply silicone oil to the running surface after about 25 hours of use (or 2-3 months). Ignoring this risks the 1,0 hp motor overheating due to increased friction or the belt starting to jerk. We haven't yet conducted a long-term test, however. Centering the belt with an Allen key is also essential. If the belt drifts to the left or right, you'll need to readjust it using the rear screws. It's not rocket science, but it does require some discipline to ensure you can enjoy the device for a long time.

In addition to the practical remote control, the Pro version includes a handrail and an iPad holder.

The perfect partner for everyday business life

The MotionX Pro is also a useful addition for video calls and focused work. While sitting often leads to a slump in concentration, the constant movement at 1,5 to 2,5 km/h keeps the circulatory system, and therefore the brain, at operating temperature. Typing emails or creating presentations also becomes surprisingly fluid after a short adjustment period. The walking pad is a real boon, especially in longer meetings where listening is the primary focus. The gentle movement reduces stress and prevents the typical afternoon slump.

The biggest benefit, however, isn't just the calorie burn, but the feeling after gaming. We all know that "gaming coma": you get up after four hours, your back aches, you feel groggy and sluggish. Using the Walking Pad at a moderate speed of 2-3 km/h keeps your circulation going. You're mentally alert and physically "warmed up" after your session. This effect shouldn't be underestimated for your long-term health and overall mood. It transforms the seemingly "lost" time in front of the screen into an active phase.

Time to give your legs a rest? The MotionX Pro makes itself easily accessible after your cardio session. Thanks to its wheels, you can effortlessly move it aside. It stands upright and doesn't take up valuable space when you're not using it as a calorie burner.
