Friday the 13th – Horror Inc. officially confirms sequel to the cult game

What had long been rumored is now true. approvedHorror Inc. is working on a new Friday the 13th-Video game. The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 last weekend and is likely to bring a collective sigh of relief to fans of the 2017 predecessor. After the original game was delisted at the end of 2023 and online support was discontinued at the beginning of 2024, the future of the franchise remained uncertain for a long time. Now it's clear that Jason Voorhees will return – and not just on the big screen, but also on the gamepad.

Friday the 13th is getting a new game

According to Robbie Barsamian, Executive Vice President at Horror Inc., the new game is one of the main projects under the label. Jason Universe, which is intended to combine several media formats. Incidentally, a film sequel to the 2009 film is also in production. Friday the 13th, also under his supervision.

Rights chaos resolved, hovering over the franchise

That this sequel is even possible is thanks to the restored agreement between Horror Inc. and Victor Miller, the screenwriter of the first film. After years of legal battles, the licensing situation now seems to be resolved. Horror Inc. had already announced in 2024 that the Friday the 13th-Rebuilding the franchise is now becoming a real project.

For fans of the original, which built a loyal community despite its technical shortcomings, this confirmation is a glimmer of hope. Even though a release is still a long way off, the official launch at least means that the franchise is alive – and it's intended to be more than just a nostalgic relic.
