The USK has presented its annual report, in which this time the entire games industry was also assessed, which, despite some negative news in recent weeks, is not doing so badly.

In 2011, the industry achieved total revenue of $56 billion, and this is projected to increase to $82 billion by 2015. In Germany alone, €1,99 billion of this revenue was generated. A total of 71 million video games were sold in Germany.

According to the USK, the trend of recent years continues, with more and more games being submitted for review each year for the various platforms. The report states:

developed."

Furthermore, it states once again that the declining number of testing procedures over the past two years indicates that manufacturers are increasingly focusing their projects on a new generation.

"Even though the current hardware cycle is the longest ever, declining release numbers can be observed with every transition to a new hardware generation."

At the same time, statistics were published showing how the games are divided by age group. According to these statistics, games with a 'USK 18' rating continue to make up the smallest share, with only 167 games receiving this rating last year. In only 14 cases was a rating completely refused. The majority of games received a 'USK 0' rating.

The PC remains the strongest platform in terms of game offerings, followed by the Xbox 360 and the PS3, each accounting for around 15 percent of all games. Nevertheless, console games generate almost twice as much revenue.
