It was already anticipated that Gamescom in Cologne would break its visitor record again this year. As the organizers have now announced, 275.000 visitors attended this year's gaming event.

With another record number of exhibitors and visitors, gamescom 2011 once again underlined its position as the world's largest trade fair and event highlight for interactive games and entertainment. Until Sunday, August 21, 557 exhibitors (2010: 505) from nearly 40 countries (2010: 33) presented well over 300 games to the international games community, including world, European, and German premieres (2010: 200).

While the entertainment area offered even more space for games and premieres this year, the gamescom business area impressed with increased networking opportunities and access to international markets and key players. The trending topics in interactive entertainment include mobile games, online and browser games, the next generation of motion-controlled games, and 3D gaming.

In addition to the new games, the audience was also enthusiastic about other innovations at gamescom – the partner country UK, the gamescom award, the gamescom campus for media education and skills, and the family day. The overall gamescom experience was once again rounded off by the city festival in the heart of the city, which attracted more than 100.000 visitors.

"In one word: overwhelming!"Gerald Böse, Chairman of the Management Board of Koelnmesse GmbH, enthusiastically concludes the results. “We have once again surpassed last year’s results, both in terms of exhibitors and visitors, and reached a new level. Through temporary entry restrictions, we were able to ensure that the halls were never overcrowded and that the safety of the games community was guaranteed.” So much evil continues.

“Above all, our thanks and respect go to the games community. Gamescom connects and brings together people with the same passion from all over the world. 2011 once again offered 100 percent gamescom feeling, with a unique atmosphere, admirable patience, creative outfits, and unforgettable gaming experiences. We are already looking forward to the next gamescom 2012 in Cologne with great anticipation!” said Olaf Wolters, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association (BIU).
