I kind of suspected as much, there are currently several rumors circulating about the postponement of Horizon forbidden west, which is now scheduled for release in 2022.
That's what VentureBeat editor Jeff Grubb claims, anyway. in a podcast, Apparently, there's already a lot of internal turmoil regarding this year's release. It seems that this date won't be met. Officially, a release around Christmas has been promised.
In an excerpt on Reddit Grubb, however, emphasizes that this is by no means certain:
"That's basically what I said. But I tried to make it clear that this is what I'm hearing, not that it's a certainty."
A postponement would not be surprising at all, was the first gameplay presentation of Horizon forbidden west It was anything but convincing and delivered far less than the debut trailer had promised from a technical point of view.
Added to this are the ongoing challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced the postponement of more than one title. Furthermore, publishers still have too few consoles in circulation to justify the risk of a next-gen release. On average, less than 10 percent of consumers buy an absolute AAA blockbuster, even if it's an exclusive.
State of Play not until September?
Grubb also wants to know something about the next State of Play, which is supposedly not until September. If that's true, Sony not only generously skipped E3, but also seems to have little interest in Gamescom in August.
Industry representatives are evaluating this behavior by Sony already considered stupid, because they are missing out on a lot of attention.
UpdateAccording to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, the delay appears to be official. Horizon Forbidden West is now slated for release in the first quarter of 2022. Confirmation from Sony is still pending.
That would be a shame, my wife was really looking forward to the game.
