Bluepoint pitched a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off and a Bloodborne remake. Sony rejected them. Was that the final nail in the coffin for the studio?

Do you know that feeling when a studio could deliver and then just shuts down? That's exactly how this feels. new report Jason Schreier sheds light on the mystery surrounding the end of Bluepoint Games – and the list of abandoned projects keeps growing.

Before Sony pulled the plug, the team apparently pitched several top-tier deals: a Bloodborne-Remake, a spin-off to Ghost of Tsushima and even a revised version of their own Shadow of the Colossus-Remakes. None of them were made.

Why the Ghost of Tsushima spin-off failed

The planned spin-off to Ghost of Tsushima It sounds exciting, but it raises some questions. The "Ghost" series is designed as an anthology, as we've known at least since the announcement of... Ghost of Yotei Know. Each story stands on its own – technically speaking, almost every new installment is already a spin-off.

It seems likely that Sucker Punch Productions simply wanted to maintain control of the franchise. When you're working on your next big release, you're reluctant to relinquish your "baby." But behind the scenes, there was a completely different problem.

Live service as a stumbling block: The God of War project

Bluepoint had previously been involved in the development of a God of War-Live service title integrated. The project was eventually scrapped, resources were wasted, and valuable years were lost. According to the report, this very misinvestment was a major reason for the later closure of the studio.

Herein lies the dilemma: A team that... Demon's Souls Having proven its mastery of single-player perfection, the studio is being forced into the constraints of live service at all costs. In the end, it pays the price for a strategy that missed its core competency. BloodborneA remake would have been a no-brainer for the community, but instead, a lot of potential was wasted. A tragic end for a renowned studio.

What do you think: Would a Ghost spin-off from Bluepoint have worked, or was Sony's skepticism ultimately justified?

Ah man, it all would have worked out if the studio had been given a real chance. I find it questionable anyway why the studios don't trust each other; it's ridiculous. Bend Studio also made an Uncharted game back then, Golden Abbys, and when I think about it, that installment was better than some Naughty Dog titles. Or Ready at Dawn made great PSP God of War games back then; Ghost of Sparta had a spear and shield as weapons, which was the blueprint for God of War 2018 and Ragnarok's shield and Sindri's spear gameplay. I don't think it's bad if someone else develops a spin-off; it can bring a breath of fresh air when the main developers are stuck in a rut.
