Tactical hardcore milsim instead of shallow open-world action. Ubisoft is apparently planning a radical return to the uncompromising roots of the tactical shooter for "Ghost Recon Project OVR." Leaks from development circles point to a tough gameplay reboot that is heavily based on modern hardcore benchmarks.
Inspired by Ready or Not
The upcoming Ghost Recon This means it completely breaks with the gameplay style of its direct predecessors, "Wildlands" and "Breakpoint." According to recent information from leaker Rogue I Tx, Ubisoft is abandoning the familiar third-person perspective and instead opting for a hardcore first-person military simulation. The most important gameplay guide in the design process is said to be the tactical hit "Ready or Not," where every move requires planning and every bullet is deadly.
The gameplay focuses on atmosphere, the immediate environment, and strict team passing. To maximize immersion, the user interface will be significantly reduced. This is a clear indication that Ubisoft is eliminating casual elements and targeting a loyal hardcore audience that demands tactical depth.
Why radical change is the right decision
The shift towards a realistic milsim approach is no accident. "Ghost Recon Breakpoint" spectacularly failed at launch due to overloaded loot mechanics and a shallow game world that almost completely lacked the spirit of the Tom Clancy franchise. Only lengthy updates and a subsequently added immersion mode saved the project from total collapse.
By streamlining the gameplay and focusing on uncompromising tactics, Ubisoft is filling a glaring gap in its own portfolio. Since Rainbow Six has concentrated entirely on its esports spin-off Siege for years, a story-driven, cooperative tactical shooter has been completely absent from the AAA market. A focused milsim Ghost Recon perfectly exploits this gap.
New GR is set in Asia definitely inspired by Ready or not with the squad features the Ui is more limited imo than previous games pushing more boundaries on stealth with the environment and realism. https://t.co/i1ggEK2MxR

Asian setting: New ground for the ghosts
The scenario apparently moves beyond the fictional islands and known drug cartels. The Ghosts are being sent to Asia for their next mission. Specific regions or national borders have not yet been revealed, suggesting a fictional or composite area of operation.
The project is expected to be developed again by Ubisoft Paris, who, despite the Breakpoint debacle, possess the necessary expertise for the franchise. According to internal timelines, Ubisoft is aiming for a release in late 2026 or early 2027. Since the game is already in its alpha phase, an official announcement is expected in the coming months.
This development has the potential to completely win back the trust of the old fanbase. A true tactical board game in the style of the old SWAT series is sorely lacking on consoles and in the mainstream market. Nevertheless, expectations remain limited for now: After past mistakes, Ubisoft still needs to prove that they can replicate the unerring game design of "Ready or Not“can be transferred to a large budget without watered-down live service elements.”
Brilliant, next flop XD IF it happens
