For 'Ghost Recon: Wildlands', Ubisoft has brought on board various Hollywood stars who contribute to the backstory of the open-world military shooter.

Don Winslow is the award-winning author of the international bestsellers *The Cartel*, *The Power of the Dog*, and *Savages*. Shane Salerno is one of the most sought-after writers in the film industry. He is currently working with James Cameron on four separate sequels to *Avatar*, the highest-grossing film of all time. He is also writing and producing *The Cartel* (an adaptation of Don Winslow's book) for renowned filmmaker Ridley Scott. Salerno also contributed to the screenplay for the film *Savages*, starring Don Winslow and three-time Oscar winner Oliver Stone. He also co-wrote the screenplay for *Armageddon*, directed by Michael Bay.

“Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is a first for the series, offering for the first time a huge open world that can be freely explored. With this level of freedom, we wanted to have top talent on board to create a believable story around the cartels and their organization.” says Ubisoft Senior Producer Nouredine Abboud. "As fans of their work, we knew that Don Winslow and Shane Salerno were the perfect team to give the game its realistic roots while maintaining the entertainment value of an entertainment product."

Winslow and Salerno use their knowledge of the international drug trade as well as their storytelling skills to provide an authentic narrative for players when Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available in stores on March 7th.

"I have been writing about drug cartels for over twenty years. Together with my writing partner Shane Salerno, I have incorporated this accumulated knowledge into the story, the scenarios, the characters, and the dialogue of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands.", says Winslow.

Winslow and Salerno worked closely with the narrative team at Ubisoft Paris to create the "what if" scenario of a Mexican drug cartel taking over Bolivia in the near future. Their more than twenty years of experience in research and writing enabled them to help the development team create a story based on real events. They created a believable criminal organization for the fictional Santa Blanca Cartel and wrote in-depth backstories for key characters in the game, such as the boss, El Sueño, as well as core elements of the special unit "Ghosts."

"I've been a fan of Tom Clancy ever since I read The Hunt for Red October.", says Salerno. "It was very exciting to work with the Ubisoft team on this project. Everyone is incredibly passionate and dedicated and wants to deliver the best possible gaming experience for their fans."

Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available from March 7th.
