Besides the change of setting from sunny Greece to the icy north, the father-son relationship between Kratos and Atreus is probably one of the biggest and most important innovations of God of War (2018) and God of War RagnarokThe offspring not only stands by the war god in battle, but also gives the character more depth. A clear development can be seen in the two games, which the actor would apparently like to continue, as he reveals in an interview.

God of War: Atreus is supposed to "become a man".

The BAFTA awards were presented last week and God of War Ragnarok Sunny Suljic, who plays Atreus, once again had to concede to Christopher Judge, who plays Kratos, but chatted with... thegamer a little about the role and the future of the series.

After Atreus learned a great deal from Kratos in the two Nordic games and developed step by step, Suljic hopes this development will continue. No explicit details are revealed, but the direction is clear:

I think there are so many paths Atreus can take, and the people working on the narrative aspects will have a better idea of that than I do […] I think it would be cool to see Atreus grow into a man. I've had the opportunity to grow up with the character, so I feel like I see myself reflected in him, so I feel like we're both developing at the same time.

Suljic would therefore like to continue playing the role and explore the character's development from adolescence to adulthood. If that happens, it's quite conceivable that Atreus himself could take on the lead role at a later date. He would also like to continue working with Christopher Judge, as the relationship between the two has apparently become very close even off-screen.

Having worked with Chris for so long, he's like a father to me. So many of these scenes felt real when we were doing the takes, and it was truly impressive […] It felt like a large part of the work wasn't even from the script; it was all natural dialogue, and that was a completely new feeling for me compared to other projects.

Of course he wants it to continue; he's financially secure at his young age.
From Sony's point of view, I can understand it; they want young actors to be able to plan for the long term, but
Personally, I wouldn't buy a God of War game that doesn't feature Kratos.
Some IPs are just too closely associated with certain characters, especially if the IP was so tailored to that character at its initial release.
DMC without Dante isn't DMC, no matter how cool Nero tries to be, or Tomb Raider without Lara Croft is pointless.
